Aggravated Rape

Aggravated Rape is considered an even more serious criminal offense than Rape, and requires the prosecutor to prove one additional element beyond a reasonable doubt.  To prove the crime of Aggravated Rape, the prosecutor must also prove that the rape resulted in or was committed with acts resulting in serious bodily injury; was committed by a joint venture; or was committed during the commission or attempted commission of another crime.

A conviction for the crime of Aggravated Rape will subject the offender to Sex Offender Registration; require the person to submit his/her DNA to the Massachusetts DNA Database; subject the offender to a term of community parole supervision for life; and could also serve as a predicate 'sexual offense' for civil commitment as a "sexually dangerous person."
